Mayor Gloria Olmos believes keeping South El Monte safe for our families, businesses and schools is the most important part of running a city.
To keep South El Monte safe, and to reduce crime rates further, Mayor Olmos secured funding for additional policing hours from the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department. South El Monte contracts the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department to patrol the City’s streets, and maintaining strong relations with the L.A. County Sheriff’s is a crucial aspect of managing city resources to maximize public safety.
In demonstration of her commitment to public safety, Mayor Olmos has also immersed herself in ride-alongs with the Sheriff’s Department to get a first-hand perspective from our men and women in uniform. Mayor Olmos also joined the Sherriff’s Public Safety Council Academy to zero-in on crucial issues facing the City and how best to deal with them.
Thanks to leadership from Mayor Olmos, we have more patrol coverage and safer neighborhoods.
Before being elected Mayor, Gloria Olmos served on the Valle Lindo School Board for 15 Years where she helped lead the effort to dramatically improving academic results: helping realize the California Distinguished School District, Blue Ribbon Schools, and Golden Bell Awards.
Consequently, Mayor Olmos is passionate about improving the educational opportunities and results for our children. After all, they are our future!
Mayor Olmos is a current Board member of the South El Monte High School Parent Teacher Student Association (P.T.S.A.) and Co-Founder of the Children’s Advocate Swapmeet to provide scholarships to SEMHS students and support all clubs and sports.
She also served as Past President for the Soroptimist International for six years where she helped many students in the San Gabriel Valley receive scholarships, with a priority to the El Monte Union High School District and served 10 years as a member and Board Member accumulative.
Mayor Olmos feels the future of our youth is in our hands and takes this responsibility seriously. She has doubled the internship positions for our Summer Youth Internship Program to provide more opportunity to local youth and extend the time needed to learn important skills.
Looking forward, Mayor Olmos plans on collaboration with local businesses to implement a Summer Internship Business Program at a bigger scale.
Because a balanced education is important, Mayor Olmos has been very active in after school sports and athletics programs.
Mayor Olmos coached Basketball, Baseball, Softball, Volleyball and T-ball and has been Team Mom for Jets football, Little League and various City of South El Monte Youth Sports. She Is active in Church Leadership and has mentored moms in the Options Pre-School Organization for several years.
Maintaining a thriving city includes attracting a vibrant business environment. Attracting responsible businesses to South El Monte also expands the city’s tax base, creating a more stable financial environment while growing revenues. Increased revenues feeds back into the community into improved city services creating a virtuous cycle.
Mayor Olmos has a proven track record of attracting businesses to South El Monte. She will continue to make positive changes needed to generate more revenue by bringing in more commercial/retail business which have doubled under her watch.
Mayor Olmos has been supportive of our local
businesses and has been involved in numerous programs that not only benefit the businesses who operate in South El Monte, but our residents as well. She will continue to foster an environment that makes it rewarding to operate a business in South El Monte.
With the right leadership, Mayor Gloria Olmos believes our government can work for us to enhance our lives and improve our quality of life. Since being elected, Mayor Olmos has led efforts to secure more funding to increase city services for all our residents. She has also worked to create and enhance numerous programs in our city..
